Robert F. Steinwachs, 98, of Inverness FL passed away June 2, 2018 in his sleep, peacefully at home, surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Julia Steinwachs, his children Christine Steinwachs of Venice FL, Marie Steinwachs of Gainesville, Mark Steinwachs (Leslie) of Deland, and Gary Steinwachs of Venice. A daughter Carol, passed away in 2004. His grandchildren are Alex Steinwachs (Christine) of Pembroke Pines, Magen Steinwachs of Bradenton, Lauren Steinwachs of Tampa, and Margaret Steinwachs of Deland; one great-grandchild, Charlotte, of Pembroke Pines. Also surviving Robert are a close cousin, Edward Padelford (Anne) of Bethesda MD, their daughter Jane Padelford, husband Ezequiel Gomes, and their daughter Annaëlle.
Robert was born and raised in Buffalo and Elma NY. In the US Army during World War II, he served along the Alcan Highway managing and maintaining military communications across the Northern Territories in temperatures that dropped to as low as -70 degrees F.
The family moved to Venice, FL in 1964 where Robert and Julia opened Buffalo Bill’s Snack Shop and Catering, which they successfully operated until son Gary bought the business in 1982. The couple then retired to Floral City and Inverness.
Robert will be remembered for his sense of humor and inquisitive mind. He authored two books, Brain Bafflers and Super Brain Bafflers, containing some of his favorite puzzles.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Robert is scheduled for Saturday, June 23, 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Inverness. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast, PO Box 641270, Beverly Hills, FL. 34464 which provided excellent support for the family.
