Kenneth D. Witmer, Jr., age 74, of Inverness, FL, passed away June 1, 2018, at his home with his loving wife by his side and while under the care of Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast. Kenneth was born on September 9, 1943 in Pottsville, PA to the late Mae Elizabeth (Gunluft) and Kenneth D. Witmer, Sr. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War.
After his military service, Kenneth went to work in the Pennsylvania coal mines. He eventually went to work for the State of Pennsylvania as a Deep Mine Safety Instructor and was responsible for educating others on how to handle deep mine rescues. Most recently, he was the Manger of the Edgewater Oaks Mobile Home Park in Inverness, FL.
He met Carol (Reidler) in 1979 and they eventually married in 1992. Kenneth and Carol made Citrus County, FL their home 6 years ago after relocating from Tremont, PA. He was a member of Inverness VFW #4337 and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Inverness. While residing in Tremont, PA he was a member of the Little Run Sportsman’s Club. In his spare time, Kenneth enjoyed fishing, tinkering in the garage and working on cars.
In addition to his loving wife Carol, those left to mourn Kenneth’s passing are his son, Charles Young (Melinda) of St. Louis, MO; daughter, Christine Witmer (John Pritz) of Pottsville, PA; stepsons: Clint Shoop (Jessica) of Halifax, PA, Marcus Shoop (Heather) of Williamstown, PA; stepdaughter, Angela Ochs (Jeff) of Tremont, PA; brother, Terry Witmer (Barbara) of Tower City, PA; sisters: Bonnie Ruch (Franklin) of Tower City, PA, Judy Rutledge of Williamstown, PA; 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Kenneth was preceded in death by stepson, Samuel Eugene Shoop; brother, William Witmer; great grandson, Declen Bohner.
Cremation care is under the direction of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
