Katherine Julia Ryan, age 77, of Floral City, FL, passed away at her residence on March 4, 2018, with her loving family by her side and while under the care of Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast. Katherine was born on May 8, 1940, to the late William and Katherine (Wein) Baum.
She made Citrus County her home 46 years ago after relocating from Laurence Harbor, N.J., where she was employed as a Police Officer in the 1960’s. Katherine spent 21 years with her beloved significant other, Patricio Rivera, until his passing on August 14, 2017. She was a Baptist by faith and enjoyed making and painting ceramics. Katherine loved her family and greatly enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a big fan of the Nintendo game Zelda, and played it on a regular basis. She was also an expert at word games including Words with Friends and crosswords.
Those left to mourn Katherine’s passing are her sons: Christopher Ryan and his wife Angie of Inverness, FL, David Rivera of Gainesville, FL; daughters: Katherine Gaytan and her husband Jorge of Raleigh, N.C., Lynn McCallister and her significant other James Blevins of Floral City, FL, daughter-in-law, Anna Barrientos of Floral City, FL; and multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren. Katherine was preceded in death by 3 children: Karen Ryan, Michele Ryan, Charles Farley, and 1 brother, William Baum.
A funeral service of remembrance for Katherine is scheduled for Friday, March 9, 2018, at 3:00 PM at the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home, with Reverend Tommy Hatcher officiating. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home beginning at 2:00 PM until the hour of service. Burial will take place following the service at Hills of Rest Cemetery, Floral City, FL.
