Hazel A. Yancey, age 94, of St. Petersburg, FL, formerly of Hernando, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Petersburg. Hazel was born on August 9, 1923 in Athens, GA, to the late Robert and Edith (Fleeman) Allgood.
On July 12, 1941, she married John Yancey with whom she shared 70 years of loving marriage until his passing in 2011. Hazel was a resident of Citrus County for 25+ years then returned to St. Petersburg 5 years ago to be closer to her family. She was a Southern Baptist by faith and a former member of the First Baptist Church of Hernando. Hazel greatly enjoyed going to church, doing puzzles, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Those left to mourn Hazel’s passing are her son, John L. Yancey and his wife Roberta of St. Petersburg, FL; daughter, Karen M. Smith and her husband Butch of St. Petersburg, FL; 5 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
A graveside service is planned for Thursday, March 8, 2018 at 11:00 AM, at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL, with Reverend Keith Dendy of the First Baptist Church of Hernando, officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
