Edward “Ed” and “Ted” Berg, 85, of Inverness, passed away on February 27, 2018 after a brief stay at Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast. Born November 20, 1932 at Royal Oak, Michigan to Albert and Mildred (Vause) Berg, he graduated from Pontiac High School and joined the Air Force, serving in the Korean War.
Ed married Shirley Kingswell in June 1957, and received a B.S. in chemical engineering from Michigan State University. They moved to Ohio, where he worked in research and development for the Environmental Protection Agency. He earned an M.S. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Cincinnati, and also acquired his Professional Engineer license. After retiring from the E.P.A., they moved to Ft. Myers, and later to Inverness, where they have lived for the past 18 years.
A member of Inverness Golf and Country Club, his first love was golf, and he had nine holes-in-one. But he also enjoyed fishing, hockey, and was a loyal Cincinnati Bengals fan, even though they never won a Super Bowl.
Ed is survived by his wife, Shirley; brother Tom of Ontario, Canada; daughter Theresa (Everett) Crouch of Cincinnati; son Lewis (Kelly) of Franklin, TN; grandsons Lee (Hope) Crouch and Doug Crouch, both of Cincinnati; great-grandsons Tristan and Noah Crouch; and nieces and nephews in Florida, Michigan, Virginia, and Ontario.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Chas E. Davis Funeral Home, 3075 S. Florida Ave. Inverness. Visitation begins at 2 p.m. and service is at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Ed’s honor to The Path of Citrus County, 21 S. Melbourne St., Beverly Hills, Florida 34465.
