Lloyd General Shelton, age 97, of Inverness, FL, passed away at his residence on February 14, 2018, with his loving family by his side. Lloyd was born on February 7, 1921, in Keno, KY to the late Walter Dee and Nora (Jones) Shelton. He was active in the Civilian Conservation Corps as a teen and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and was a World War II Veteran. After relocating to Florida in the 1950’s, he went into business for himself. Lloyd joined the Citrus County Sheriff’s Department in 1965, and after many years of service, retired as an investigator. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Virginia Ruth (Nicholas), on April 11, 2017. A Baptist by faith, Lloyd was a Charter Member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. His claim to fame came when he was selected to have an acting role in Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color’s “Wahoo Bobcat” in 1963.
Left to cherish his memory are his 3 daughters: Glenna “Faye” VanHook (William R. VanHook, Sr. dec) Somerset, KY; Janet Foshee (David Foshee, dec), Ft. Myers, FL, Gayle Stokes, Inverness, FL; brother, Don Shelton (Carol), New Castle, IN; 7 grandchildren: Marsha VanHook, William R. VanHook, Jr. (Tammy), John Foshee (Stephanie), Patti Blanchard (Bobby), Keith Stokes, Erin Beasley (Dennis) and Kevin Stokes (Alissa); 9 great grandchildren: Heather Kruzyk (Alex), Tyler Beasley (Claire), Brady Lloyd Beasley, Clay Foshee, Bo Blanchard, Jacob Blanchard, Olivia Stokes, Jack Beasley, Carter Shelton Stokes; and 1 great-great grandson, Grayson Beasley. Lloyd was preceded in death by his brothers: Robert, George, Ardell, Noel and Edgel Shelton; and sisters: Mabel Neal and Helen Keith.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at 2:30 PM at Cornerstone Baptist Church and was conducted by Reverend Greg Kell. Private burial took place at Hills of Rest Cemetery, Floral City, Florida. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Lloyd’s memory be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church, 1100 W. Highlands Blvd., Inverness, FL 34452. Arrangements are under the direction of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
