Doris Bown

Doris Bown, age 92, passed away on February 7, at the Brentwood Health Care Center, where she had recently been convalescing and sharing a room with her devoted husband of 69 years, Peter Bown.
In addition to her husband, Peter, she is survived by her daughter, Carolyn; her brother, Ray Beeson; and she is pre-deceased by her beloved son, Christopher.

Doris was born and raised in Wales, United Kingdom, and in 1955 followed her husband Peter to America, where they raised their family, residing in Westchester, New York until re-locating to Hernando 20 years ago.

During World War II, Doris served in the ATS (the Auxiliary Territorial Service), which was the women’s branch of the British Army. In America, she worked in retail for 20 years at Lord & Taylor in Scarsdale, New York.

Doris was devoted to her family and was a tireless and dedicated homemaker. She loved a night out dancing with Peter (their specialty was the foxtrot) and vacationing in the family’s favorite spots, Lake Luzerne, NY and the Outer Banks, North Carolina. She loved talking to friends and keeping up with their latest goings-on, and also took pleasure in playing cards and doing crosswords. Prior to hip surgery several years ago, Doris could often be seen walking her loving beagle Tess around the Citrus Hills neighborhood, making many friends and acquaintances as she went.

If desired, a donation could be made in her name to the Beagle Rescue Organization (https://donate.rescueme.org/beagle) or to any local animal shelter or organization.
