Genise Hoffmeister, age 69, of Inverness, FL, passed away at her home on February 6, 2018 while under the care of her loving family and Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast. Genise was born on January 15, 1949 in Cullman, AL to the late Carl and Vera (Privett) Poindexter.
She made Citrus County her home in 1981 after relocating from Lancaster, CA and was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Inverness. Genise was a Postal Clerk for the U.S. Postal Service for 42 years and had spent 34 years of her career at the Inverness location. On August 17, 1985 she married John Henry Hoffmeister IV, with whom she shared 32 years of loving, devoted marriage. She loved engaging with her customers at the Post Office, and in her spare time she enjoyed cutting coupons, entering sweepstakes, and watching Oprah or Dr. Phil. Genise will be remembered for her beautiful smile and her warm, friendly and outgoing personality. She never met a stranger.
In addition to her husband John, those left to mourn Genise’s passing are her daughter, Amy Hoffmeister of Oxford, FL; stepsons: John Henry Hoffmeister V and Frank Vincent Hoffmeister, both of Inverness, FL; brothers: Robert Poindexter of Quincy, WA, Lonnie Poindexter of San Francisco, CA and Rocky Poindexter of Palmdale, CA; 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Michelle Aucutt and brothers, Leonard and Jerry Poindexter.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Monday, February 19, 2018 at 11:00 AM from Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Inverness, with Father Tim Cummings, Celebrant. Friends are invited to visit with Genise’s family beginning at 9:30 AM at the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home, Inverness. The procession to the church will depart from the funeral home at 10:45 AM. In lieu of flowers, Genise’s family requests that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Florida Chapter of the ALS Association, 3242 Parkside Center Circle, Tampa, FL 33619. Arrangements are under the direction of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
