Millie Jean Slate, age 84, formerly of Hernando, FL passed away February 5, 2018 in the Key West Health & Rehab Center in Key West, FL. Mrs. Slate was born in Clinton, TN on September 5, 1933 to the late Homer and Pauline (Grogg) Meanor and relocated to Citrus County in 1991 from Orlando, FL. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Inverness. Millie enjoyed reading and tending to her home which she dearly loved.
Left to cherish her memory are two children, Alan Slate of Sanford, FL and Debra Friis-Pettitt and her husband, Gordon of Big Pine Key, FL; 1 brother, John Meanor and his wife Sue of Texas; 3 sisters: Patsy Burkett and husband, Charlye of Inverness; Caroline Jenkins and her late husband Larry of Floral City; Bertha Perkins and husband Pete of Texas; 6 grandchildren: Tricia Mae Class, John David Lingerfelt, Lori Elizabeth Slate, Staci Lynn Lingerfelt, Kimberly Lynn Musbach, and Mark Alan Slate; 7 great grandchildren: Gracie Mae Class, Greyson Class, Hannah Lynn Lingerfelt, Jordan Caden Lingerfelt, Aaliyah Faith Simpson, Addison Lynn Musbach, and Delaney Elizabeth Slate. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Donald E. Slate on August 2, 2017. Others preceding her were her brothers, William, Gerald, Bobby, and David Meanor, and her sister, Joy Corey.
A Celebration of Life service for Millie, will be conducted on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 11:00 AM, at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory of Inverness, with Pastor Jerry Bloxton of the Trinity Baptist Church, officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
