Kay A. Balfour

Kay Arlene Balfour, age 81, of Inverness, FL, passed away at Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness on January 28, 2018. Kay was born on September 22, 1936 in Oneida, N.Y. to the late Albert C. and Mary (Hovey) Boyd. She graduated from Oneida High School in 1953 and went on to attend Mohawk Community College. Kay married George Balfour in 1985 with whom she shared 14 years of marriage until his passing on November 10, 1999.

She moved to Orlando, FL in 1958 and was the Office Manager for Heintzelman’s Ford for 16 years. Kay relocated to Inverness in 1974 and was an Escrow Accountant for Citrus Title Company for 19 years. She then went on to work as a Bookkeeper for Golden X Plumbing Supply until her retirement in 2001.

Kay was Episcopal by faith and a parishioner of St. Margaret Episcopal Church, Inverness, FL. She was a volunteer with Humanitarians of Florida where she also served as Treasurer on the Board of Directors for 7 years. Kay also volunteered her time at the Manchester House spay and neuter clinic, and friends of the library. She was a charter member of The Hogs Project, an organization that stitched “cool” ties, helmet liners, and also provided care packages to members of the armed services serving in the Middle East.

Kay is survived by half-brother, Albert Boyd, Jr.; half-sister, Carol Wilhelm; nephews: Ned H. Boyd, Lt. Colonel Darren S. Boyd; and stepsons: Paul McPherson, Ron Rood and David Balfour. She is also survived by her dear friend, neighbor and caregiver, Linda Willis. In addition to her husband George, she was preceded in death by her brother, Larry M. Boyd and stepson, Steven Balfour.

A funeral service for Kay is planned for Friday, February 2, 2018 at 11:00 AM from the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Father Eugene Reuman of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 AM until the hour of service. Following cremation, Kay’s urn will be laid to rest at St. Margaret’s Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a local animal charity of your choice in Kay’s memory.
