Gary Lane Burrell, age 88, of Inverness, FL, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast, Lecanto. Gary was born on January 25, 1929 in Cheboygan, MI to the late Melvin and Mae (Davison) Burrell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 2 beloved sons: Gary Burrell, II and Greg Burrell.
He was drafted into the United States Army and was a Veteran of the Korean War. After his military service, Gary went on to work as a Plumber and Pipefiitter for UA Local 370 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union in Flint, MI. On August 10, 1951 he married Gwen (Williams) with whom he shared 66 years of loving marriage. Gary and Gwen made Citrus County their home in 1983 after relocating from Fenton, MI. A Catholic by faith, he was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Inverness. In his spare time, Gary enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing pool and golf.
In addition to his loving wife Gwen, those left to mourn Gary’s passing are his daughter in law, Barbara Burrell; 2 grandchildren: Steven Burrell, Stephanie Burrell-Butte and her husband Nate; 2 great grandchildren: Hunter and Eastin Butte; and 2 sisters: Barbara Stacks and Jo Ann Clarey.
Friends are invited to call at the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home on Monday, January 29, 2018 at 9:00 AM for viewing and visitation with Gary’s family. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 AM from Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with Father Claudius Mganga, Celebrant. Burial will follow at Florida National Cemetery where full military honors will be rendered by Inverness VFW #4337 Honor Guard. The procession to the church will depart from the funeral home promptly at 10:45 AM. Arrangements are under the direction of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
