Sylvia J. Murphy, 81, of Tavares, FL, formerly of Inverness, passed away November 25, 2017 at her residence in Tavares surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Justice W.VA. on November 16, 1936 to the late Verlin and Tressie (Blankenship) Walker. Sylvia was a teacher in W. VA, and then a data processor at Seminole State College. She arrived in this area in 1997, coming from Maitland, FL. and attended Rutland Baptist Church. She played upright bass for several years in a bluegrass band, and enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening, reading, fishing, cooking, and loved spending time with her family. Sylvia was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Donald L. Murphy in 2015, and one brother Zionel Walker. She is survived by her daughters, Vicki Durden and her husband Larry of Tavares, and Stephanie Murphy of Eustis , FL., and sisters Zenith Harless, Rita Anderson, and Sheila Darlington. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service is scheduled for Thursday, 11:30 A.M. at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home, Inverness. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home one hour hour prior to service. Sylvia will be laid to rest with her husband at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL, after the service.
