Rousso P. Kanaris, 93, Homosassa, FL passed away November 8, 2017 at Citrus Memorial Hospital. Rousso was born in Astypalea, Greece on April 1,1924, one of twelve children, to the late Peter and Irene (Gignikaki) Kanaris and came to Florida in 1974 from New York.

He was in the restaurant business most of his life. He owned and operated the Apollo Restaurant followed by Emily’s Restaurant in Homosassa which he operated for 30 years before retiring. He was a proud 32nd degree Mason, being a member of Hellenic Plato Masonic Lodge No. 1129 in New York City, Springs Masonic Lodge in Homosassa, Scottish Rite, and Egypt Shrine Temple in Tampa. His Masonic career spanned 50 years. Rousso was a long time member of Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church where he was always supportive of their fund raisers and festivals, spending many hours volunteering his time.

Left to mourn his loss are his three children, George Kanaris and wife Jessica of Inverness, Theone Friend of Long Beach, NY; Pam Cozzolino and husband, Steve of New York City; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Kanaris on February 5, 2013. They were married for 63 years. He also lost a son, Peter Kanaris in 1994 as well as his five brothers and six sisters.

The Greek Orthodox Funeral Rite will be celebrated on Monday, November 13, 2017, 10:00 AM, at the Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church in Lecanto with Fr. Michael Petrides, celebrant. Burial will follow in Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park in Clearwater, FL at 2:00 PM. Friends will be received at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home in Inverness Sunday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 PM.
