Jacob M. Kleiwerda, age 89, of Homosassa, FL, passed away Sunday, September 10, 2017 at Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast, Lecanto. Jacob was born on November 5, 1927 in Midland Park, N.J. to the late William Reinard and Hattie (Van Dyke) Kleiwerda.
He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. After his military service he worked in many different professions including custodial work and as a delivery driver or “Milkman” for the dairy industry.
He was married to Betty Lou (Scheffle) for 37 years until her passing on December 11, 2010. In 1990 he and Betty Lou made Brooksville, FL their home after relocating from New Jersey. Jacob made Homosassa, FL his home 2 years ago. A Christian by faith, he greatly enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Brooksville Garden Club. From 1968 to 1989, he showed and raised Guinea Pigs for the Circle K Cavy’s. Jacob played guitar in his youth and performed with a group called The Strummer’s in New Jersey.
Those left to mourn Jacob’s passing include his daughters: Gail Kraus of Homosassa, FL, Dorothy Sottosantis and her husband Herbert of Spring Hill, FL; son, William Kleiwerda and his wife Lynda of Williamsburg, VA; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife Betty Lou, Jacob was preceded in death by son, David Kleiwerda, daughter, Diane Tucker and sister Catherine Pintak.
Jacob’s urn will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL at a later date. Cremation care under the direction of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
