Captain Fred Pruter, Jr., (U.S. Army) age 95, of Inverness, passed away September 6, 2017 at Hospice of Citrus & The Nature Coast in Lecanto. Fred was born September 20, 1921 in Dallas, TX to the late Fred and Nina (McCarty) Sr. and came to Citrus County from Cape Coral, FL.
He was a retired engineer in the oil drilling industry, having drilled in 46 countries. He served as Vice President of Overseas Drilling for Drillco & Joy Manufacturing. Fred graduated from Stanford University with a degree in engineering. He served our country in the U.S. Army as a Captain during WW II in the 25th Infantry Division. Fred was a Life Member of VFW Post 4337, a former Rotarian, member of the Inverness Golf & Country Club, Empyrean Realm OF NOMADS, Inverness Elks Lodge, Houston Petroleum Club, and First Presbyterian Church of Inverness.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Young) Pruter of Inverness; 4 children: Farnum Kerr Pruter Alston, Bozeman, MT; Diane Graeber, San Marcos, TX; Lucie Pruter-Chag, Needham, MA; Dorris Patton, Galveston, TX; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his late wife of 46 years, Dorris “Dottie” DeMontrond Pruter; two sons, Fred Pruter and Fred G. Pruter and his sister, Nina “Sunny”Morse.
Military graveside services are Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Florida National Cemetery.
