Eugene W. Suydam, Jr., 86 years, Inverness, FL passed away on August 3, 2017 at Legacy House Hospice Center in Ocala, FL. Mr. Suydam was born on April 20, 1931, in New Bunswick, N.J. to the late Eugene and Mildred (Stryker) Suydam, Sr. He came to Florida in 1986 from Milltown, New Jersey.

Eugene was an avid reader, loved baseball and was an aviation enthusiast, having taken flying lessons. He enlisted in the Air Force shortly after the Korean conflict began, serving as as tactical instructor and attaining the rank of Staff Sgt. He was a member of the the Inverness First United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post 77. Mr. Suydam previously was involved in many civic and sports activities, serving as baseball and soccer coach, Lions Club secretary and East Citrus Soccer League treasurer.

His lifetime occupation starting in May 1955 was as a life-health insurance agent and manager, having proudly helped many people with their insurance problems over many years. He served Met Life 31 years, Mutual of Omaha for 13 years and the balance of service as an independent agent. Although Eugene was slowed down by various health conditions, he happily still conducted his activities of working with people and helping them as much as possible.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 42 years, Nancy A. Suydam; his children: Eugene W. Suydam, III and wife Wendy of Columbia, SC; Ronald Oliver of Oviedo, FL; Adam Suydam and wife Allyson of Keller, Texas; Garrett Suydam and wife Kimberly of Ocala, FL; 9 grandchildren: Eugene, David, Katelyn, Veronica, Grant, Aaron , Abigail, Camden and MacKenzie; He was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Lynn Hua and sisters, Marion Poliero ,Carole Ketaner, and Dorothy Gandek.

Funeral services for Mr. Suydam will be conducted Thursday, August 10, 2017 at 12:30 PM at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Rev. John Fischer, officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:30 until the hour of service.
