Hans W “John” Menzel

Hans W. “John” Menzel, age 94, of Beverly Hills, FL passed away July 30, 2017 while under the care of Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast, Lecanto, FL. Hans was born in New York City on May 24, 1923 to the late Hans Paul and Katherine (Hagel) Menzel.

After graduating from Brooklyn Tech High School, he worked at Bell Labs, and then served in the Southwest Pacific with the Signal Corps during WWII. He married Mary Bassi in 1948, and graduated with a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, in 1950. Hans and Mary, along with their 6 children, made their home in Applewood Manor, in Dallas, PA.

He made Citrus County, FL his home in 1985 after relocating from Dallas. After moving to Florida he enjoyed boating, fishing and computer activities during his retirement from production engineering at RCA Semiconductors in Mountaintop, PA. after 23 years of service. He continued to spend summers in PA for many years, and became an active member of the Citrus Macintosh User Group.

Hans was preceded in death on June 8, 2017, by his wife, Mary, of 69 years, and two grandchildren, Gregory Menzel and Wendy Reese.

Hans is survived by his sons: Dr. John Menzel of Dallas, PA, Robert Menzel and his wife Sandy of Wilkes-Barre, PA, Eric Menzel and his wife Barbara of Dallas, PA; his daughters: Laura Sheldon and her husband Richard of Malta, N.Y., Jennifer Reese and her significant other Rick Denmon of Dallas, PA, Kathryn McHutchison of Beverly Hills, FL; sister, Katherine “Kay” Boggs of Houston, TX; 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Hans will be held in Dallas, PA at a later date. Private cremation arrangements are under the direction of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
