Elburta M Shelton

Elburta M. Shelton, age 84, of Inverness, FL passed away at her residence on July 22, 2017 surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast. Elburta was born on July 30, 1932 in Hillsboro, TN to the late Auborn and Ruby (Brown) Matlock and made Citrus County her home in 1974.

In 1950 she married Walter Shelton with whom she shared 54 years of marriage until his passing on January 9, 2005. A woman of faith, she attended worship services with her daughter at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Inverness. In her spare time she enjoyed the outdoors by gardening, caring for her plants and feeding the hummingbirds. Elburta also loved to bake, especially at the holidays. She was a wonderful cook whose specialty was southern cooking. Elburta will be remembered as loving and caring mother and grandmother.

Those left to mourn her passing are her son, Walter Glen Shelton, Jr. and his wife Sherry of Inverness, FL; daughters: Barbara A. Clifton of Inverness, FL, Rosemary O’Connor and her husband Joe of Jacksonville, FL; special adopted son, Billy Brown of Ocala, FL; brother, Bobby Matlock of Hillsboro, TN; 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. In addition to her husband Walter, she was preceded in death by her son in law, Brian, 3 brothers and 1 sister. Elburta’s family plan to hold a memorial service at a later date. Private cremation arrangements are under the direction of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
