Raymond S. Stropus, age 76, of Inverness, FL passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, April 24, 2017 with his loving wife by his side. Raymond was born on September 1, 1940 in Pazvelsio Village, Lithuania to the late Juozapas and Aniceta (Mazionyte) Stropus.
He was a United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. After his military service, he went on to work as a Mechanical Engineer in the coal industry. On August 24, 1974 he married Antoinette “Toni” Spaitis, with whom he shared 42 years of loving marriage.
Ray and Toni came to Citrus County 10 years ago from Manhattan, Illinois and attended St. Scholastica Catholic Church, Lecanto, FL. He was a Boston Celtics fan and to say he was an avid golfer would be an understatement. He was very athletic, played tennis and was a horseman, who had a horse farm in Manhattan, IL. Ray enjoyed making stained glass and had made windows and lamps for their home.
In addition to his loving wife Toni, those left to mourn Raymond’s passing are his brothers: Romanas Stropus and his wife Rasute of Lockport, IL; Antanas Stropus and his wife Angela of Weldon Springs, MO; sister, Danute Kelpsa and her husband Kazukas of Lemont, IL; and many loving nieces and nephews. Raymond was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Vladas and Juozas.
Raymond’s urn will be laid to rest and a graveside service will take place at St. Casmir Lithuanian Cemetery in Oaklawn, IL at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation to the charity of your choice be made in Raymond’s memory or to Freedom Guide Dogs, 1210 Hardscrabble Road, Cassville, NY 13318. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
