Patricia Lois Cloward, 88 of Inverness passed away at her home on April 14, 2017 under the loving care of her family. She was born in Dorchester, MA on December 7, 1928 to the late Bruno and Josephine (Pezzati) Ferroli, the first of two daughters. She attended Boston Latin School and Simmons College, earning her degree in Library Science.
She began her library career in Connecticut. She then provided personal library service for the sick and wounded during the Korean War at Saint Albans Naval Hospital in Queens, New York. It was there that she met her husband, George Cloward and they were married on August 31, 1952.
After moving to Huntington, LI, NY, Patricia served as a school librarian for several years before working as a librarian for the Huntington Historical Society. She was elected to the Board of Trustees for the South Huntington Public Library and participated in the expansion of that system.
Patricia moved with her husband George to Inverness in 1983. Although retired from professional life, Patricia was a devoted volunteer. She joined the Inverness Highlands South and West Civic Association and immediately began serving in their sheriff-sponsored Surveillance unit. She also joined the Special Library District Advisory Board from 1987 through 1991, during a planned expansion.
Patricia became a vocal community representative before weekly meetings of the Citrus County Board of Commissioners and served on the Zoning Board of Adjustment from 1987 through 1990. She helped to write and edit the “Highlander” a free monthly tabloid distributed for seven years in the Inverness Highlands. Patricia served on the Planning and Development Review Board for two years from 1990 through 1992. She organized and participated in Lifeline, a daily call service for the benefit of seniors and other disabled residents who lived alone. The service was supported by Surveillance and the Sheriff’s Department.
Finally she was President of the Highlands Civic Association and Chairperson of the Citrus County Council in 1990 and 1995 respectively.
Married for 64 years upon her death, Patricia is lovingly remembered by her husband, George “Lee” Cloward, her daughter, Rachel Lea Cloward, her sister, Janet Claire Borgman, her many nieces and nephews and other family as well as the many friends she has enjoyed in Florida.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 3:00 P.M. at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, with Fr. Tim Cummings from Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church officiating.
