Rena Kay King, 54, Inverness, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2017 at the Citrus Health & Rehab Center. Rena was born April 14, 1962 to the late Wesley and Geraldine (Rowe) Brown in Muncie, IN. In 1969, she moved to Florida with her family. She was formerly employed at the Citrus County Chronicle as the Classified Advertising Manager.
Family was Rena’s passion and how lucky she was to have such a large one. She lived each day to be surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Rena was blessed to assist in the delivery of six of her grandchildren, all of which were born at Citrus Memorial Hospital. Holly and David say she was a true gift to have in the delivery room and was the most amazing coach during labor and delivery.
Right along with her love for family, she had a great interest in learning about her Cherokee and Native American heritage. She spent many years assisting her sisters in putting together their family tree and during this time, she became a member of the Cherokee Nation Turtle Clan. Rena loved to sing and during her adolescence, she was a member of her father’s church and was part of the quartet. Rena’s love for God was always above all; she truly believed in the Great Spirit in The Sky.
Left to cherish her memory are 4 children, David King and wife Sabrina of Inverness; Holly Hartley and husband Nathan of Citrus Springs; Danny King of Jacksonville; Debra Smith and husband Jeff of Lake City, FL; 1 brother, Wesley Brown, Homosassa; 4 sisters, Cynthia Higginbottom and Sharon Smithers, both of Tennessee; Debbie Myers, Chiefland, FL; Madonna Sharpe of Iowa; 12 grandchildren, Noah, Gracee, Juliet, Savannah, Lily, Dawson, Paige, Nicholas, Devin, Kobe, Jennifer, and Ashley. She was predeceased by her husband, George J. King, Jr. on August 19, 2015; a brother and sister, Kenneth and Rose Brown.
Graveside services will be conducted from Oak Ridge Cemetery on Tuesday, April 25th at 11:00 AM with Jason Wetherington officiating. The Chas E Davis Funeral Home is assisting the family.
