Virginia Ruth Shelton, 92, Inverness, passed away April 11, 2017, at her Inverness home with her loving family and friends by her side. Virginia was born November 15, 1924, in Quinton, Pulaski County, KY, to the late Ansel E. and Flossie (Colyer) Nicholas.

Virginia met the love of her life, Lloyd G. Shelton, at the age of 16. She moved to Inverness in the 1950’s. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Inverness for many years, where she enjoyed volunteering with the Clothes Closet Ministry during her retirement years. She was a charter member of Cornerstone Baptist Church.

Family meant so much to her and she loved and cared for all and her Mother/Granny/Nana’s influence will continue. Virginia was an excellent southern, country cook. She retired after twenty-three years with the Bank of Inverness, where she was much appreciated by her customers and co-workers for her friendly, warm personality and sincerity of concern for people. She was known in the community as the fruitcake lady, as she baked multiple fruit cakes for Brannen Banks each Christmas season.

Left to cherish her precious memory along with her husband Lloyd, are their 3 daughters: Glenna “Faye” VanHook (William R. VanHook, Sr. dec) Somerset, KY; Janet Foshee (David Foshee, dec), Ft. Myers, FL, Gayle Stokes, Inverness, FL; 1 brother, Chester Nicholas (Gelia, dec.), Danville, KY; 1 sister, Georgia Stout (Clyde, dec.), Tateville, KY; 7 grandchildren: Marsha VanHook, William R. VanHook, Jr. (Tammy), John Foshee (Stephanie), Patti Blanchard (Bobby), Keith Stokes, Erin Beasley (Dennis) and Kevin Stokes (Alissa); 9 great grandchildren: Heather Kruzyk (Alex), Tyler Beasley (Claire), Brady Lloyd Beasley, Clay Foshee, Bo Blanchard, Jacob Blanchard, Olivia Stokes, Jack Beasley, Carter Shelton Stokes; and 1 great-great grandson, Grayson Beasley. She was preceded in death by her brother, Cecil Nicholas (Ann) and 3 sisters, Lorene Lewis (Roland, dec.), Ruby Bolin (Glen, dec.) and Delia Nicholas.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at 3:00 PM at Cornerstone Baptist Church with Reverend Greg Kell officiating. The family will receive friends in visitation at the church from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM. Private burial services are scheduled at Hills of Rest Cemetery, Floral City, Florida.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Virginia’s memory be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church, 1100 W. Highlands Blvd., Inverness, FL 34452. Arrangements are under the direction of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
