Ellen Belle Umbenhaur, age 88, of Inverness, FL passed away Friday, March 10, 2017 at Superior Residences of Lecanto. Ellen was born on April 9, 1928 in Chicago, IL to the late Lyle and Jesse (Stanley) Hanegan. She was a graduate of Fenger High School in Chicago, IL.
Ellen was married to Ellery Umbenhaur for 65 years until his passing on March 9, 2015. She and her husband originally made Citrus County their home 20 years ago after relocating from Niles, MI. A woman of faith, she formerly attended worship services at New Testament Baptist Church in Floral City. When Ellen was a teenager she was a talented classical piano player. In her spare time she enjoyed doing crafts, cooking and serving in the church. Ellen had dedicated much of her time over the years assisting with Vacation Bible School and teaching Sunday School.
Those left to mourn Ellen’s passing and cherish her precious memory are her sons: Gary Umbenhaur and his fiancee’ Carol Hearn of Inverness, FL, David Umbenhaur and his wife Tammi of Buchanan, MI; grandchildren: Angela Hostettler and her husband Gordon, Benjamin Umbenhaur, Joshua Umbenhaur and his wife Irene, Matthew Umbenhaur and his fiancee’ Christine Williams, Kari Cook and her husband Jon; and great grandchildren: Gordon III, Marta, Gabrielle, Kylee, Johnathan and Alissa. In addition to her loving husband, Ellen was preceded in death by two brothers: Lyle Hanegan, Jr. and Robert Hanegan.
A graveside service for Ellen is planned for Monday March 13, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Hills of Rest Cemetery, Floral City with Pastor David Clevenger officiating. Friends may call at the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home on the morning of the service beginning at 10:00 AM for visitation with the family and to join the procession to the cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
