Muriel H. Neel, age 99, of Inverness, FL passed away March 7, 2017 while under the care of Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast in Lecanto, FL. Muriel was born in Englewood, NJ on December 18, 1917 to the late Harvey Edward and Rose (Handwerg) Crum. She was a graduate of both Park Ridge High School, Park Ridge, N.J. and the Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York. Muriel was a Banker for most of her working career and moved to Florida in 1981 from Metuchen, NJ. She has resided in Citrus county for over 30 years. She was a den mother for the Cub Scouts when her son was young and also taught Sunday School. In her spare time Muriel enjoyed gardening, cross stitching, and needle point. She also liked to knit and would make sweaters and socks for her family.
Left to mourn Muriel’s passing are her children Thomas Huber and his wife Evelyn of Inverness, and Carol Berning and her husband Jeff of Jupiter, FL; 4 grandchildren, Robert Justice and his wife Sherrie, Kimberly Benge and her husband Denny, Jennifer Justice, Thomas Huber, Jr. and his wife Shannon; 7 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Alice Crum of Inverness. Muriel was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and John Crum and one sister, Eleanor Whitehead.
A Celebration of Muriel’s Life is planned for Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at 3:00 PM from the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness with Pastor David R. Smith of Cornerstone Baptist Church officiating. The family will receive friends in visitation beginning at 2:00 PM until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Muriel’s memory to the Friends of Citrus County Animal Services, P.O. Box 641, Inverness, FL 34451. Arrangements under the direction of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
