Kathryn Arvanis, age 89, of The Villages, FL passed away Monday, March 6, 2017 at the Leesburg Regional Medical Center, Leesburg, FL. Kathryn was born in New York City, NY on June 17, 1927 to the late William and Eleni (Gigiakos) Fidares. She was married to Orestes Arvanis, who was truly the love of her life, for over 56 years until his passing on August 9, 2003. She had recently made The Villages her home after relocating from Mount Laurel, NJ 8 months ago.
Kathryn worked as Bookkeeper throughout her lifetime for various retail companies. She had especially enjoyed working for her son in law, John, at his business Alternative Heat. Kathryn was Greek Orthodox by faith. For a number of years she volunteered her secretarial skills as a correspondence secretary for the Deborah Heart and Lung Hospital in Browns Mills, NJ. Kathryn had also organized a number of fundraising events for the hospital including fashion shows. In her spare time she enjoyed playing Mah Jong and cooking meals for her family and friends. Kathryn especially enjoyed baking and shared the skill of baking greek breads and cookies with her family. She was a fan of the Army Football Team and especially loved cheering them on during the Army/Navy Football game. Kathryn will be remembered as a very thoughtful and giving person that was always ready to help others and a loving and doting grandmother. She had a tremendous love for her husband, children and her brother in law, Paul.
Those left to mourn her passing include her daughters: Kristyne A. Kilgore and her husband Charles W. II of The Villages, FL, Denise E. Nowicky and her husband John of Grand Island, FL; sister, Aphrodite Malman of Rockaway, N.J.; grandchildren: Kristina Katsalidas and her husband Stephen of Blauvelt, N.Y., John Nowicky and his wife Shannon of West Milford, N.J.; and great grandchildren: Sean, Jack and J.J.
A Funeral Service of Remembrance for Kathryn is planned for Sunday, March 12, 2017 at 2:00 PM from the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL with Father Sergious Gerken of St. Raphael of Brooklyn Orthodox Church officiating. Kathryn’s family will receive friends in visitation beginning at 1:00 PM until the hour of service.
