Joseph H. Hirtz, 94, of Crystal River passed away February 26, 2017 at Hospice of Citrus and The Nature Coast in Lecanto. Mr. Hirtz was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Joseph and Augusta (Gastmeyer) Hirtz on December 13, 1922 and came to Florida in 1997 from Merrick, Long Island, NY.
Mr Hirtz served our country in the Army Air Corps during WW II as a First Lt. and Bombardier in the European Theater, both in France and Germany. He retired from the banking industry as a Senior Vice President with Chase Manhattan Bank with over 35 years of service, followed by another career with Bank Leumi for 10 years prior to his retirement. He was a long time communicant of St Benedict’s Catholic Church in Crystal River.
Left to mourn his loss is his daughter, Diane Randolph and her husband Mark of Chicago, IL and one granddaughter, Melina Canadas of Miami. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Geraldine, August 14, 2006, his son, Michael Hirtz, and 2 sisters, Marie Calder and Helen Mann.
Funeral services for Mr. Hirtz will be conducted on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 12:00 Noon from the Chas E Davis Funeral Home in Inverness with Deacon Fred Oberst officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Florida National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 am until the time of service.
