Stephen Thomas Melnyk, 74, Hernando passed away suddenly Nov 6, 2016 at home. Steve was born in Rockville Centre, NY on Aug 10, 1942 to the late John and Josephine (Cravatta) Melnyk. He came to Florida in 2004 from Mt. Sinai, NY following his retirement from the New York State Police where he had 26 years of service.

He served our country in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne and was a member of the Hope Baptist Church, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 145 of Ocala, and Rolling Thunder, Chapter 7 of Citrus County. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed riding his motorcycle and spending time with his family.

Left to cherish is memory is his wife Kathy (Cobb) Melnyk; his daughter Karen Vutrano and her husband, Greg of Centerport, NY; four other children, Roderick and Felisha Wilson, Beverly Hills, Fl; Devon Wilson of Cynthiana, KY; Bryan Taylor of Lexington, KY; and Sonya and Micah Carrel, Paris, KY. Seven grandchildren: Violet Vutrano, Christopher Wilson, Gage Wilson, Sebastian Carrel, Skyler Peak, Maxwell Taylor and Braylen (Wilson) Flamini.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at 3:00 PM from the Chas E Davis Funeral Home of Inverness with Rev. Pete Kelly of the New Hope Baptist Church officiating. Additional services will follow in Port Jefferson, NY (O.B.Davis FH) followed by burial in Calverton National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home on Tuesday from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM until the time of service.
