John E Richards

John Edwin Richards, 93, of Inverness, Florida passed away October 7, 2016 at his residence in Inverness. He was born in Pompton, Lakes, N.J. on February 9, 1923 to the late Russell and Winifred E. (Spoken) Richards.

John was a supervisor for the E.I. Dupont Chemical Company, retiring with 40 years of service in 1981, and a Christian by faith. As a young man, he served 3 1/2 years in Europe during WWII and was a Silver Star recipient. Although he was involved in many battles, he was blessed to return safe.

He arrived in this area in 1988, coming from Wayne, N.J. He was a super strong man who enjoyed every aspect of his life. In his spare time, he liked fishing and trapping with Lake Wawayanda being his favorite place to be next to home. John also enjoyed woodworking and working with stained glass. He will be loved and missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his precious son Douglas Richards who passed away from cancer on August 29, 2014. John is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Patricia H. Richards. Other survivors include his children John Russell Richards of Plant City, FL, Gail Carter and her husband James of Sebastian, FL, Michael Richards and his wife Marykaye of Inverness, FL, David Richards and his wife Daene of Wayne, N.J., and Sharon Eisenstein of Del Ray Beach, FL; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services with military honors for John are scheduled for Tuesday, October 18, at 2:30 P.M. at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, with the procession departing the funeral home at 1:45 P.M. Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness.
