Martin Howard Leonard, age 91, of Inverness, FL died September 7, 2016 at Avante’ of Inverness. Martin was born on November 11, 1924 in New York City, N.Y to the late Martin J. and Beatrice (O’Connor) Leonard. Martin proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps from 1941 to 1951 and went on to join the reserves from 1952 to 1963. During his military service and as a member of the Marine Corps Third Division, he was given 23 medals for Battles of Engagement during tours of duty that included Korea, Guam, New Zealand, New Caledonia, Bouganville, Samoa, Panga Panga, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. Martin was awarded 2 Purple Hearts, 2 Bronze Stars, 1 Silver Star and 2 Medals of Valor. In 1952, he married Marceline Greene with whom he shared 63 years of marriage. After his military service, Martin was employed by Johnson and Johnson as a Sales Representative for 10 years. In January of 1994, he and Marceline made Citrus County their home after moving from Fort Myers, FL. Martin was a member of the N.R.A., and enjoyed reading, watching television and going to flea markets in his spare time. In addition to his loving wife Marceline, those left to mourn Martin’s passing are his sons: Scott K. Leonard of Inverness, and Glenn D. Leonard of Buckingham Air Park, FL; and 2 grandchildren: Casey and Rebecca. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Dawn M. Leonard. The Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory is assisting the family with private cremation arrangements.
