Gene M. Asbury, 86, Floral City died June 29, 2016 at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness. A native of Charleston, WV, he was born December 29, 1929 to the late Daniel and Helen (McClanahan) Asbury and came to Citrus County in 1983 from Melbourne, FL. Gene was a retired commercial pilot, instructor, mechanic, and fixed base operator and served our country in the U.S. Air Force. His passion was flying but he also enjoyed playing cards, reading, and spending time on the computer. He was a member of Oviedo Masonic Lodge No. 243.
Gene is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rozella Walters Asbury, Floral City, FL; 1 daughter, Sandra Kay Gathers, Melbourne, FL; 4 sisters, Frances
Bailey, Carol West, Susan Asbury, and Katherine McCann, all of Inverness; 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Jean Jenkins, a brother, Ronald Asbury, and a sister, Marilyn Sue Asbury.
Graveside services with military honors, will be conducted Tuesday, July 5th at 10:00 AM at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, with VFW Post #7122 officiating. There will be no calling hours, the procession to the cemetery will leave the funeral home at 9:15 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials requested to: American Lung Assoc., 8950 Dr Martin Luther King Street No., Suite 205, St Petersburg, FL 33702 or American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
