Robert J. Merrihue, age 65, of Floral City, formerly of Clearwater, FL, died unexpectedly at his residence on March 19, 2016. Robert was born on July 3, 1950 in Bronx, NY to the late George James and Theresa (Convey) Merrihue. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and was a Veteran of the Vietnam war and was a recipient of a Purple Heart.
In 1986, Robert relocated to Florida and eventually made Floral City his home. In 2004, he married Frances Lambs Leahy. A Catholic by faith, Robert attended services at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Inverness, FL. He was a member of the Floral City V.F.W. Post #7122, and a former member of the Amvets and American Legion. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, plants, cooking on the grill and being outdoors.
In addition to his loving wife Frances, those left to mourn his passing are his son: Robert James (Laura) Merrihue of Pennsylvania; his brother: Jim Merrihue of Massapequa Park, NY; two sisters: Donna (James) Lillie of Ronkonkoma, NY and Nancy (Edward) Rakowski of Southern Shores, NC.
Interment will take place at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell on Monday, March 28, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. with Floral City VFW Post #7122 Honor Guard rendering military honors. Friends and family are asked to gather at the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home by 9:00 a.m. on the morning of the service to join the procession to the cemetery.
