Lloyd E. Butler, 89, of Elk Rapids, MI, died January 22, 2016 surrounded by his loving family at Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness, FL. Lloyd was born May 3, 1926 in Bellaire, MI to the late James and Mary Elizabeth (Bush) Butler.
He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy and was a veteran of World War II. After returning to civilian life, Lloyd was employed as a claims manager in the insurance industry. He moved to Elk Rapids, MI in 1982 however, for the past fifteen years, he was a winter resident of Inverness, FL. A Presbyterian by faith, Lloyd was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Elk Rapids. He was also a member of the Elk Rapids Amvets and Rotary Club. Lloyd believed in giving back to his community and did so by delivering for the Elk Rapids Meals on Wheels program and volunteering his time at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness, FL. In his spare time, he loved a good game of golf and also enjoyed hunting and the great outdoors. Other hobbies and interests for Lloyd include skiing, snowmobiling, traveling and taking cruises. He especially loved spending time with his significant other, Hilda Vasseliou, who will greatly miss his companionship.
Others left to mourn his passing and cherish his precious memory are his four children: Phillip (Brenda) Butler of Sault St. Marie, Ontario, Canada, Deborah Butler White of Madison, CT, Alan Butler of Traverse City, MI and Richard (Beth) Butler of Gaylord, MI; twelve grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jean and eight brothers and sisters: Eula, Gilbert, Vernon, Eunice, Elizabeth, Annis, James and David.
A memorial service is planned for a later date in Elk Rapids, MI. The Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL is assisting the family with cremation arrangements.
