James Kenneth Sutherland, 82, Hernando passed away Dec 28, 2015 in the Citrus Hills Health & Rehab Center. Jim was born July 30, 1933 in Ontario, Canada to the late James D.G. and Jean (Paul) Sutherland
He resided in Ocala since 1961 before moving to Inverness 15 years ago. He retired from law enforcement, having been employed by the Ocala Police Dept and Marion Co. Sheriff’s Department. He also taught law enforcement classes for 25 years at the Withalcoochee Technical College and Central Florida Community College. Jim served our country in the U.S. Army and was a Life Member of V.F.W. Post 4252. His memberships include the Inverness Elks Lodge No. 2522 where he served as Past Exalted Ruler during 1985-1986, Board of Trustees during 1990-1991, Past State Chairman of the Florida Elks Association, and Inverness Moose Lodge No. 2112.
He is survived by his wife, Decima Sutherland; three children, James K. Sutherland ;Jane Kimberly Anderson; Joan Karen Chappel ; his brother, Donald G. Sutherland; 5 grandchildren.
Jim’s life will be remembered and honored at a Memorial Service on Monday, January 4, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. from the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Hernando with The Rev. Kenneth Blyth officiating. Graveside Military Services will follow at 2:30 PM at Florida National Cemetery with V.F.W. Post 4252 officiating. The procession will leave the church at 1:15 PM. Friends are invited to be a part of the procession. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Jim’s memory.
