Harry A Wolfertz Jr

Harry Arthur Wolfertz, Jr, 75, of Inverness passed away December 21, 2015. He was born April 23, 1940 in San Antonio, Texas, the first child of Harry A. and Rublee (Hall) Wolfertz. His father’s Air Force career then took them to North Carolina.

Harry first came to Florida in the early 60’s and resided in Ft. Pierce where he lived close to and got to know the artist “Beanie” Backus. Harry had a talent for art but could not be persuaded to produce more than a sketch here and there, most often on a napkin. He returned to the Carolinas for awhile, but soon warmer weather again beckoned in the early 70’s and he moved to Citrus County. He owned and operated the Treasure Patch Nursery until retiring to pursue his love of antiques and marbles. He was an expert on the value of marbles and was sought out for his knowledge. He participated in marble shows throughout the country. He was a vendor at Webster Flea Market, and was an avid golfer, he and his brother John spent many hours fishing until a failed knee replacement curtailed his activities.

Harry is survived by his brother John and wife Dagmar and their children: John and his wife Spring of Newland, North Carolina and their son Darren, Daughter: Christina and her husband Stephan Chantiles of Cary, North Carolina, son: Jeremiah and his wife Heather of Inverness and their children Matthew and Jessica. His sister Rublee Davis of Silverdale, WA and her son Christopher of Bremerton, WA and his children: Angela, Jacob and Joseph and her daughter Marie Lucas of Bremerton, WA and her children: A.J., Jon, and Collin. He also leaves his cousin Karen Hammond Lauren of Brownwood, Texas with whom he shared a special bond.

Also left to cherish his memory is his loving companion for 21 years, Doris Graska and her children Glenn Corp and Lane Shaw, as well as her granddaughter Jessica Shaw who 21 years ago, at the age of two, claimed Harry as one of her grandfathers. He taught her to fish and the value of a dollar among other things. Harry supported Doris’ involvement in the Fair industry and, in the earlier years, traveled to Fairs and conventions around the state, but what he looked forward to each year was the Panacek’s pre-fair event.

As Harry’s days grew fewer it was his wish that we continue with our Christmas traditions in celebration of the birth of Jesus and to remember the reason for the season. He will be with us in spirit and we will reserve a chair for him just as Jimmy Stewart did for Harvey.

Friends will be received from 3:00 until the hour of service at 4:00 on Saturday, December 26th at the Charles E. Davis Funeral Home. Pastor Troy Sheppard of Citrus Missionary Baptist Church will lead the service.

Jean Grant was a special friend and her continuing youth scholarships at the Citrus County Fair Association would honor his memory. 3600 South Florida Ave., Inverness, FL 34450
