Denise Mena, age 97, Hernando, passed away on October 16, 2015 under the loving care of her family members and the staff of Citrus Hills Health and Rehab. Denise was born on January 13, 1918 in Cape Haitian, Haiti to the late Reon and Adrienn (Kampmann) Paret.
She spent many years teaching French to high school students in the Dominican Republic. After her retirement and relocation with her husband to Inverness, she enjoyed walking the Highlands streets and feeding the dogs along the route treats. She was known as “The Dog Lady.” Denise was a great fan of the music of the Big Band Era and also was an avid watcher of the TV show “General Hospital” — she watched this show for over 50 years! Denise was a member of the American-Italian Club and parishioner at both Our Lady of Fatima and Our Lady of Grace.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Eduardo (wife-Angelina) Mena, Inverness, Victor Mena, Miami, FL, Nancy Bell, San Francisco, Pinky (Richard) Arteca, Queens, NY; a stepdaughter Altagracia Ortiz, NY, NY. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband August Mena and a daughter Katie That.
A tribute to Denise’s life will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory. The family will greet friends in visitation from 9:00 AM until the hour of service. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
