James U Treter

Dr. James Urban Treter, 70, of Ocala, FL, and formerly of Erie, PA, died September 23, 2015, in his home. He was born on September 23, 1945. Dr. Treter was the son of the late Myron Henry “Mike” and Phyllis Ricart Treter, and grandson of the late J. Urban and Clara Babcock Ricart.

He was a 1963 graduate of Academy High School, a 1967 graduate of Allegheny College where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity, and a 1973 graduate of Temple University with a degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery. At Temple University, Dr. Treter was inducted into the national dental honor society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon. After serving two years in Boston, MA, with the Public Health Service Hospital, Dr. Treter practiced dentistry in Erie, PA, from 1975 to 2005, before retiring and moving to Ocala, FL.

Dr. Treter was a Mayflower descendant of Edward Fuller; he was a member of Sons of the American Revolution.

Dr. Treter was an accomplished photographer for 40 years, capturing worldwide underwater images, equestrian events, or motorcycle races. His eye, expertise, and long-time love for scuba diving produced photographs worthy of an inclusion in a National Geographic publication. Dr. Treter shared his passion for scuba diving with his wife and each of his children.

Dr. Treter and his wife, Marsha, were avid billiards players, participating in various competitions over the years.

Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Marsha of Ocala, FL; his four children Matthew Ricart Treter and his wife Tifanie of Seattle, WA, Dr. Sarah Dunn Treter and Nelson Hernandez of Greensburg, PA, Lydia Treter Bravo and her husband Edson of Dumfries, VA, and daughter Janelle Treter and her husband and their three children; granchildren Alejandra Kaitlyn Bravo, Alexander Edson Bravo, Isabel Lydia Bravo, and Peter Michael Treter Zackim. Dr. Treter is survived by step-children Joseph G. Bean and his wife Libertaria Di Matteo of Davie, FL and his son Jacob, Cassandra B. Laymon of Los Angeles, CA Laura F. Morale and her husband Rick Cunningham of Ocala, FL and their sons Maxx and Lorenzo. Dr. Treter is also survived by a brother, Dr. David Richard Treter and his wife Linda of Pittsburgh, PA, niece Katherine Treter, and nephews Christopher Treter and Mark Treter.
