Donald Ralph Gittings, age 89, Inverness, died September 18, 2015 under the loving care of the staff of Hospice of Citrus County. Donald was born on October 12, 1925 in Majorsville, WV to the late Arthur G. and Bessie (McCracken) Gittings.
He served our country in the United States Navy as a Hospital Corpsman, first class, retiring after 20 years of service, encompassing WWII, the Korean War and Vietnam. He loved the game of golf and golfed at Brentwood Golf Club. Donald relocated to this area from Norfolk, VA in 1976.
He was preceded in death by his wife Esther Lilly Gittings on 11/02/2001 and daughters Beverly Gittings Hildreth on 09/04/2012, daughter Donna Gittings on 03/11/2014.
Don is survived by his sister-in-law, Katharyn Lilly, nieces Kathy Laing and Penny Murphy, nephew Harry Lilly, along with a host of special great nieces and nephews, all from Louisiana who loved him dearly as well as his beloved dog, Brandy.
A memorial service with Military Honors were rendered Sept 22, 2015, 10:00 AM with VFW Post 7122 officiating at the Chas E Davis Funeral Home. Interment will be in Hills of Rest Cemetery at a later date.
