Charles P Holbrook

Charles P. Holbrook, age 89, Hernando, died Aug 5, 2015 under the loving care of his familly and the staff of Hospice of Citrus & The Nature Coast in Lecanto. Charles was born September 3, 1925 in Winsted, CT to the late Charles W. and Helen (Persons) Holbrook. He served our country in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII from 1944 through 1946 . He served in the 8th Air Force in England on a B24 as an airplane armorer and gunner, while in flight was ball turret gunner. Charles’ education journey started with the Gilbert School, Randolph Macon Academy and he went on to receive his Bachelor of Science degree from Connecticut State Teachers College and his Masters Degree in Education from University of Hartford and his sixth year at UCONN. He was a teacher at Thomaston High School for 37 years, the last 15 as the English Department Head. Charles was also a part-time ski instructor at Mohawk Mountain in Cornwall, CT and a member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America. He was a member of the American Legion, past president of the Thomaston Lions Club and served on the Board of Directors for Thomaston Rod and Gun Club in Litchfield County. He moved to Florida in 1990 and built a home with his wife in Citrus Hills. He enjoyed golf and bocce. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 52 years, Mary Lou Holbrook; his son Marc Holbrook, his wife Kristen and their children Shannen and Dylan; his daughter Allyson Holbrook, Waltham, MA. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles R. Holbrook. His feelings about his life are summed up in the words of his favorite poet, Robert Frost in The Road Not Taken “Two roads diverged in a wood and I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.” A celebration and tribute to Charles life will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 11:00 AM with Reverend Brandon Lauranzon from Seven Rivers Presbyterian Church officiating at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory with military honors to follow. The family will greet friends in visitation from 10:30 AM until the hour of service.
