Mary J Flaitz

Mary Janet Flaitz, age 88 of Ocala, died June 29th, 2015 under the loving care of her family and the staff of Highland Place, Inverness. Mary was born on August 9th, 1926 in Stambaugh, MI to the late Edward & Regina (Fotchman) Oberdorfer. Her father was a dentist in Iron River, MI and she remembered with great fondness and pride the time she spent working in his dental practice as a girl. After receiving her Bachelor’s degree, she was employed as a 3rd grade teacher for many years. Mary and her husband moved from Houston, TX to Miami, FL in 1956. After the death of her husband, Mary eventually relocated to Ocala, FL in 1992. While Florida had become Mary’s permanent residence, she always considered the upper peninsula area of Michigan, specifically Iron River, as her true home and the source of her roots. Mary was a member of the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ocala for 22 years where she served as an alter woman. Something she was very proud of. After moving to Highland Place, she began to worship at Our Lady of Fatima, Inverness. Mary’s interests included golfing, taking walks, swimming and listening to talk radio. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Felix Flaitz. Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Catherine Flaitz, Columbus OH and Jane Nikkel (Richard), Thomasville GA; sons, Donald Flaitz (Susan), Floral City FL and Edward Flaitz (Cristina), Ocala FL; and 4 grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima on Friday, July 10th at 1:00 p.m. Private cremation arrangements by Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory.
