Gail A Tierney

Gail Ann Tierney, age 64, Inverness passed away suddenly at her home on March 14, 2015. Gail was born in Jamaica, NY on Aug 18, 1950 to the late Charles W. and Margaret (Woodland) Tierney and moved to Florida in 1984 from Queens, NY. She was employed by the University of Florida in Gainesville working as editor of their Alumni magazine and later in Alumni donatiions. In 1987, she moved to Inverness to become the Public Information Officer for the Citrus County Board of Commissioners. In 1990, she became the Public Information Officer for the Citrus County Sheriff’s Department, a position she held for 22 years. After retirement in 2013, Gail joined the board of Crime Stoppers, a position she held until her death. Outside of employment, Gail had a special place in her heart for the Citrus Abuse Shelter and served on their board of directors for 27 years as the Secretary and currently as Vice-President.

Gail is survived by her brother, Denis Tierney and his wife Michelle of Excelsior, MN; her nephews, Travis Tierney, Industry, Maine; Joshua Tierney, Buffalo, MN; her niece, Karry Tierney-Bong, Duluth, MN; her God Daughter, Suzanne Delfino of Pennsylvania; her best friend, Tom Salmon, Gainesville, FL

Gail’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Chas E Davis Funeral Home with Rev Greg Kell, pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until he hour of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Citrus County Abuse Shelter will be appreciated.
