Ronald L. Worley, age 81, died peacefully on February 21, 2015 in Florida following complications from shoulder surgery. Ron is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Barbara Worley, cherished children Ronald Worley, Jr. (Teri), Robin Warner (Russell) and Rene’ Grein, his adoring grandchildren Laura and Ryann Worley, Drew and Stephanie Warner, and Emily and Randy Grein. He is further survived by his brother Gary (Marty) Worley, his sister-in-law Patti Paschal, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Ron was born in Buffalo, NY to George E. Worley and Evelyn V. Worley. He grew up in New Jersey and attended Rutgers University. He and Barbara made Westfield, NY their home where they raised their children. They then moved to New York City to check that off the bucket list. They eventually landed in Florida, living in Fort Myers for 17 years before moving to Homosassa. Since having grandchildren, “Pop-Pop” spent every summer at the family cottage on Lake Erie devoted to having fun, mentoring and loving the family.
Ron loved flying airplanes, and was an Officer in the US Air Force and the National Guard. He was a Captain at American Airlines for 27 years. Ron and Barbara were world travelers; taking extensive trips abroad and driving their camper all through the US & Canada, including Alaska, as well as Australia. Some of their best vacations were with friends and family on the OH Boatright and Basherta, their treasured sailboats.
Ron was a lifelong member of The Rotary Club, being a charter member the Sugarmill Club of Citrus County. He also was a member of The Elks, The Masons and The Moose Club. Ron had many interests, and he was passionate about all of them. For example, he was obsessed with football, playing as an adolescent, assistant coaching in Westfield, being a true blue Buffalo Bills fan, and watching any and all games on TV. He especially loved attending football games with his grandsons.
Ron always said he could paint, so while in NYC he took lessons, and over the years he became quite an accomplished artist with over 20 incredible pieces hanging at the family’s homes. When he was no longer able to paint, he turned his creative and intellectual passions to the game of Bridge, and he spent countless hours in the last years of his life playing the game with his best friends.
Ron will be remembered for his zest for life, his adventurist spirit, positive attitude, enthusiasm, optimism, overzealousness, fun-loving nature, love of family and friends.
Funeral arrangements are private, at the request of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in the name of Ronald Worley may be made to support Muscular Dystrophy or Hospice as follows:
