Carl M Townsley

Carl Marker Townsley
On the evening of February 15, 2015, Carl passed away peacefully of natural causes. Carl was being visited and comforted by family members at the HPH Hospice Care Center in Lecanto, FL.  At the time of his passing, Carl was 85 years old.
Carl Townsley was born in Star City, Indiana on April 5, 1929.  He was the first son of Ilo Ruth and Clare Beecher Townsley.  In 1930, Carl’s family moved to Columbus, Ohio, because of his father’s job with the railroad.  Carl was an outstanding athlete and graduate of Linden McKinley H.S.  In 1947, Carl joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany.  In the same year, he married his high school sweetheart, “Terry” Betty Aldridge.  They were happily married for 33 years, until her untimely death in 1979.  In 1951, Carl joined the Columbus, Ohio Fire Department where he served as a firefighter and lieutenant, until 1984.
Carl was a very accomplished carpenter and builder.  During his off-days from the Fire Department, he often volunteered his time to build or remodel the houses of his friends, family and fellow firefighters.  During this time, he would often ask to simply be paid by their sharing a beer, as he chewed on his cigar.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife, Terry.  He is survived and will be missed by his loving family, sister, Gilda (Kenny) Geyer, children Tom Townsley, Diane (Paul) Davis, Carl (Sharon) Townsley, niece Judy Slack, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Carl is also survived by his current wife, Dorothy.  Special acknowledgements go to his close friends, Wally and Joyce Nichols.
The Charles Davis Funeral Home in Inverness, Florida is in charge of arrangements.  Not wishing a funeral service, Carl’s remains will be interred at the Radnor, Ohio Cemetery, alongside his wife, Terry.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the HPH Hospice Care Center, in Lecanto, Florida, who provided his final days with peace and comfort
