William H Thatcher

William (Bill) Harold Thatcher, 83, died Tuesday evening, September 2, 2014, after a short battle with leukemia. Bill was born July 31, 1931 in Detroit, MI. He was the son of Roy and Margaret (Robbins) Thatcher. At the age of 17, Bill joined the US Army. He served in the Korean War and earned a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. Bill was a Michigan resident for 70 years prior to making his home in Homosassa, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Thatcher; and a sister, Judy Reed. He is survived by seven children: Michelle (John) Duffield of Pellston, MI; James Thatcher of Indian River, MI; Wendy (Ashley Price) Thatcher of Harbor Springs, MI; Russell Thatcher of Homosassa, FL; David (Jennifer) Thatcher of Enderlin, ND; Scott Thatcher of Pellston, MI; and Jason Thatcher of Indian River, MI; eleven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a brother, Jack (Julie) Thatcher of Tennessee; a sister Marge Ukrainec of Homosassa, FL; a sister Betty Lamirand of Michigan; a sister Sue (Mickey) Osier of Indian River, MI; and a sister Sally Hicks of Michigan. In accordance with his wishes, cremation will take place. A Military Honor Guard service will be held Monday, 11:00 A.M. at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL. The family would like to extend a thank you to Bill’s caregiver and friend, Faith Bergman.
