Sarah Jane McGary passed away on August 5, 2014 at Always There Assisted Living in Citrus Springs, FL under the loving care of her family, the Staff at Always There, and Hospice of Citrus County.

Sarah was born October 13, 1918, the daughter of Abram and Hazel Becker. She and her three brothers grew up on the family farm in Fancy Prairie, IL. Sarah earned a BS degree in Home Economics from IL State Normal. She married the love of her life, Loren McGary on August 16, 1941 and together they raised their three daughters in Petersburg, IL subsequently moving to St. Petersburg, FL in 1962. Sarah began her teaching career in IL and taught at both Disston and Tyrone Middle Schools in St. Petersburg until her retirement. In 1994 she moved to Inverness, FL. Sarah was an active member of both Pasadena Presbyterian Church in St. Petersburg and First Presbyterian Church in Inverness serving in many ministries: Elder, Deacon, Stephen Ministry, Presbyterian Women, and Prayer Gathering group. Sarah loved being a Mom and Grandma spending as much time as possible with her family. She enjoyed reading, traveling, playing cards & games with friends and family before her illness made these activities impossible. Sarah was pre-deceased by her husband Loren in 1977 and her older brother, Paul and his wife Georgia.

She is survived by her three daughters: Diane (Rudy) Beres of Hernando, FL; Betty (Gary) Butterfield of San Diego, CA; and Linda (Lynn) Richard of St. Petersburg, FL; seven grandchildren: Rick (Allyson) Girardeau, Christine Gill, Kimberly (Bryan) Camacho, Jennifer Pruitt , Michael (Suzanne) Breder, David (Erica) Butterfield, Leslie (Greg) Crespo and step-granddaughters Anne (Joel) Zupfer and Eva (Mark) Kaminski; 17 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; brother Charles (Jane) Becker of Springfield, IL and brother Ivan (Mary) Becker of Oswego, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be held on August 8, 2014 from 4 – 6 PM at Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home, Inverness. The funeral service will be at First Presbyterian Church of Inverness on August 9, 2014 at 10 AM with Interment at Woodlawn Memory Gardens in St. Petersburg, FL at 3:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Presbyterian Church of Inverness and/or Hospice of Citrus County.
