Ellen Pistoll

ELLEN PISTOLL, age 83, Inverness, died July 15, 2014 under the care of Hospice of Citrus County. Ellen and her twin brother, Robert were born on February 13, 1931 in Nielston, Scotland to Allan Robert and Ellen Pollock. Sadly, her mother died during childbirth and she was raised by her Aunt Polly, her Mother’s sister. Ellen’s father had been badly injured during WWI, having lost a leg in battle and he died when Ellen was just thirteen. After her father’s death, she and her siblings were lovingly cared for by their Aunt Polly and Uncle Jimmy who raised the children as their own. Ellen received her Registered Nurse degree and became Matron and Director of Nursing at Victoria Hospital in Glasgow, Scotland, where she worked for over 30 years. She was highly thought of and much loved by her staff and patients. She enjoyed traveling and visited many countries, including India, Australia and the Holy Land. Her love of travel led to her accompanying the Phoenix Choir to America, where she met her future husband, Heinz Pistoll. They were later married and enjoyed 24 very happy years together until his death on June 20, 2014. After being a winter visitor from Washington State for 20 years, she and Heinz relocated permanently to Florida, where she was very involved in the Inverness Garden Club and First Presbyterian Church. Left to cherish her memory is her twin brother Robert and his wife Irene of Scotland; Heinz’s children Carl Silski, OH, Larry Pistoll, WA and Lynn Pistoll, New Zealand, Linda Tuttle, WA and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sisters Jemina Patison and Barbara Pollock. A celebration and tribute to Ellen’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at 1:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church of Inverness. The family wishes to thank the minister and church family for their spiritual comfort and kindness and her neighbors and friends for their loving support of Ellen during this sad time. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Ellen’s memory to either Hospice of Citrus County or The Path of Citrus County. Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
