Anna (Anne) Gurka Whitiak, age 97, passed away at her home in Plattsmouth, NE on July 9, 2014. Anne was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Michael. She is survived by a sister Dorothy Gurka Yurchak, her loving children: Theodore M. (wife Leslie), daughter Gloria Schulman (husband Michael), son-in-law Michael Schneeberger, 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. A daughter Carole Anne Schneeberger passed away in 2007.
Anne was born on November 27,1916 in Conemaugh, Pennsylvania to Anthony and Theodora Romaniak Gurka. She grew up in Jermyn, Pennsylvania. Anne and Michael raised their family on Long Island, New York and spent their retirement years in Inverness, Florida.
Anne was a woman of great faith. She was a member of St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church in Omaha, Nebraska. Her family will truly miss her.
Viewing will be held at St. Raphael Orthodox Church in Inverness, Florida on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at 10AM followed by services at 11AM. Interment will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Inverness, Florida. Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
