Juan R deTorres

Juan Ramon deTorres, was born in Puerto Rico on January 6, 1919 to the late Ramon and Joaquina deTorres. Since receiving his Civil engineering degree from the University of Puerto Rico, Juan’s professional career covered field engineering, construction, design, research, operations and consulting for more than 50 years. His overseas work included design and construction operations financed by USAID, Export-Import Bank and World Bank. His work took him and his family around the world, restoring water and sewer to the most remote places on earth! Juan served our country in the United States Army with the Corp of Engineers during World War II. As a Captain, he always flew with assignments of recognizance mapping. He is a lifetime member of the Society of Engineers and is listed in Who’s Who for Environmental Engineering. He was a founding member of the Phi Eta Mu fraternity in Puerto Rico and remained active in membership throughout his adult life. His joy of cooking, dancing and people from all walks of life was remarkable and he has touched so many with his endless stories and quick wit. His wife of 52 years, Jacquelyn and his family will miss him terribly. Juan died on March 6th, 2014, after 95 years of boundless energy. Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory.
