ALFRED A. GIANSANTI, age 88, Beverly Hills, passed away on February 4, 2014 under the loving care of his family and HPH Hospice. Al was born on May 8, 1925 in Providence, RI to the late Pasquale and Paolina (Mizzoni) Giansanti. In 1942 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.
During WWII he served in a weapons battalion and fought in the Marshall Islands in the Pacific Theatre; he also served during the Korean conflict for 2 years and was again called to serve in the Vietnam War in 1964, distinguishing himself to be included in a very elite group of servicemen who served in combat in three wars. He was a true warrior and was selected to protect President Dwight Eisenhower when he met with several leaders in Central and South America. After 30 years of service, he retired as a Master Sergeant. He was then employed by Eastern Airlines for 18 years as an aircraft router. After retirement, he became active in the Marine Corps League, Citrus Detachment #819, serving in many capacities, his last one as chaplain. He was a parishioner at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and member of the Knights of Columbus. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 65 years, Phyllis Giansanti; his son John (Nicki) Giansanti, Colorado Springs, CO; daughters Kristina Devlin, Largo, FL, Teresa Ann (Don) Kirby, Austin, TX and Rosemary Giansanti, Tallahassee, FL; six grandchildren, Keleigh, Timmy, Ryan, Sean, Andrea’ and Jake and his many nieces and nephews from Rhode Island. He was preceded in death by his son Lawrence “Larry” Giansanti and all of his siblings Orlando Giansanti, Clara Gatta, Irma Giansanti and Mary D’Iorio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 9:00 AM from Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Inurnment with Marine Corp military honors will be held on Monday, February 10, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Florida National Cemetery. Friends are invited to join the procession to the cemetery at 9:15 AM at Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory. Memorial donations in Al’s memory are requested to HPH Hospice Foundation, Citrus Office, 3545 N. Lecanto Hwy, Beverly Hills, FL 34465.
