Clarence H. Simmons, 78, of Hernando, Florida passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2013 under the care of Hospice of Citrus County, Inverness. He was born on October 10, 1935 in Charmco, West Virginia to the late Charles and Mable (Shepard) Simmons. Clarence was a Gunners Mate for the U.S. Navy, with over twenty-one years of service, and also served as Chief of Police for a number of years in New Market, Virginia. He arrived in this area twenty years ago, coming from Mt. Jackson, Virginia; was a Lutheran by faith, and enjoyed fishing, reading westerns, watching football (especially Virginia Tech), and loved spending time with his great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and James Edward Simmons. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Martha Simmons of Hernando. Other survivors include three sons, Clarence H. (Debbie) Simmons, Jr. of Mountain Home, Arkansas, Timothy (Patricia) Simmons of Homosassa, Florida, and Joseph (Pam) Simmons of Hernando; one daughter, Barbara Simmons of Winchester, Virginia; two brothers, Charles (Marge) Simmons of Vero Beach, Florida and Lee ( Vicki ) Simmons of La Vernia, Texas; four sisters, Ruth Willis of Greenville, South Carolina, Neta (Bill) Card of Sylva, North Carolina, Carol (Manuel) Miller of Whittier, North Carolina, and Sharon Simmons of Lakeland, Florida; three grandchildren, William, Breanna, and Dakota; and two great-grandchildren, Anna and Landon. Private cremation arrangements under the care of Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness.
