William R. Colbert, 78, of Floral City, Florida passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at his residence. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on May 28, 1935 to the late Raymond Colbert and Mary Louise McCachren.
William enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1952, and served in the Korean War. Afterwards, he served as a firefighter for the city of St. Petersburg for 21 years; attaining the rank of Captain upon retirement. William enjoyed traveling, gardening, and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by 2 sons, Michael A. and Brian K. Colbert. Survivors include his loving wife of 37 years, Winifred Colbert. Other survivors include 3 daughters, Katherine (Joseph) Cannon of St. Cloud, Florida, Robin Overbay of Salem, Oregon, and Michelle R. (Frank) Tona of Ellenton, Florida; 2 Step-children, Rebecca King of Beech Mountain, North Carolina, and Steven V. Tuten of Jacksonville, Florida; 3 brothers, Frank, Joseph, and Robert Colbert, all of St. Petersburg; 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
A memorial gathering of family and friends is scheduled for Monday, August 12, 2013 from 12:30 P.M. until 1:30 P.M., at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, Florida, with honor guard services at 2:30 P.M., at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida. The procession to Florida National Cemetery will depart the funeral home at 1:45 P.M. precisely.
